SENIOR FIRMWARE ENGINEER - MACHINE LEARNING TEAM LEAD - 11134

As a Team Lead within the Machine Learning group, you will be a hands-on leader tasked with enabling (electronics and sensors) and implementing (firmware) machine learning solutions. Your team members will be tasked to highly cross-functional teams to make power tool solutions that change the lives of our users. In addition, you will act as a technical expert in the creation of these concepts and support them as products through implementation, validation, and transfer to production.
 
You'll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
  • Manage and lead a small to medium size team of engineers
  • Lead the designing, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of embedded electronics for machine learning (ML) projects.
  • Develop sensors and electronics to enable machine learning algorithms within power tools
  • Execute front end innovation projects to pioneer the future of machine learning in power tools
  • Support new product development (NPD) in delivering new-to-world machine learning enabled products
  • Work closely with other core competencies within the organization (Marketing, Reliability, Testing, Rapid Prototyping) to develop best in class products
  • Quickly, effectively, and candidly frame-up and escalate business risks/opportunities to senior leadership
  • Effectively communicate and motivate up, down and across the organization to a diverse range of technical and non-technical team members
  • Identify new innovations and strategic opportunities while considering financial impact and competitiveness
  • Establish and maintain a strong awareness of competitive offerings, product strategies, and business climate to shape a best-in-class roadmap
  • Assist in defining robust development roadmaps with project scope and resource plans that ensure the team has the time and resources required to be successful
  • Perform technical writing and presentations with proficiency
  • Embrace power tools with sawdust and sparks
What TOOLS you'll bring with you:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or MBA
  • One or more years of experience as a manager, team lead, or as a project manager
  • Five or more years of experience in the design of electronic circuits and systems
Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:
  • Strong technical understanding of and best practices for electronics and embedded system design
  • Experience with Python and C/C++
  • Proficiency in developing schematics, routing and laying out PCBs, and selecting components.
  • Experience coordinating small batch printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA) through the fabrication and assembly process
  • Experience in machine learning model development, optimization, cloud processing, data storage, pipelines, and embedded environments
  • Experience in electronics hardware, firmware, microcontrollers, controller design, stability, HDL, power electronics, robotics, sensor physics, and/or mechanics
  • Experience in time series modelling, especially with related domains such as NLP, SLAM, ML forecasting, audio/video, and/or vibrational analysis
  • Experience with the IP process including ideation, disclosure write-up, and technical discussions with IP counsel
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally outside of your core discipline
  • Strong technical understanding of and best practices for electronics and embedded system design
  • In depth knowledge of various sensor technologies and their connectivity to microcontrollers
  • Proficiency with laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power supplies, e-loads, and data acquisition systems
  • Employ excellent problem-solving skills, exercise independent judgement, and work well under pressure in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to provide sound guidance to the organization on future technical direction
  • Self-motivated, organized, efficient, process oriented with a strong work ethic 
  • Ability to present and defend methods and conclusions of the development process
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time (domestic and international)
