As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer you will be responsible for the development and deployment of a Design For Manufacturing process within the Power Tool Business Unit at Milwaukee Tool. The DFM process will integrate into our existing New Product Development processes to improve speed, reduce design iterations, and support efficiency improvements at our manufacturing sites. Through your leadership and engagement drive the DFM mindset and approach into the Advanced Development Process to help the various Power Tool Teams bring new products to market.
You'll be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
- Leverage existing or create a new DFM process and toolset then roll out to the Power Tool B.U. that delivers on the following:
- Guide for product design on general principles, approach, and process
- Consistent process to evaluate and score design elements
- Communication tool on finding, tracking, and driving closure to identified issues
- Effective process to review "challenge areas" and align on direction
- Repository for accepted issues and future project opportunities
- Own DFM training and process improvements
- Drive manufacturing improvements within the design life cycle
- Poka-yoke designs
- Common/reduced hardware
- Reduced part count
- Ease of assembly/service
- Ease of product testing
- Design for automation
- Own early line design concepts and creation
- Identify vertical integration opportunities and supply chain needs in collaboration with the Operations Team
- Participate in Make vs Make and Make vs Buy analysis
- Provide early estimates on manufacturing routings and capital requirements
- Drive considerations and requirements for in-process product testing & fixturing
- Lead discussions and consideration for potential process automation and related product design requirements
- Track emerging technologies for consideration and adoption
- Strong connection and engagement with manufacturing sites and supporting OpEx teams to understand site capabilities, future planning efforts, and ongoing project implementations.
- Develop KPIs, action plans, and report out on process results & improvements

What TOOLS you'll bring with you:
- Three to five years of project experience working with DFM software or toolsets driving product and process improvements
- Understanding of line design, manufacturing and lean principles and tools, as well as process and material flow strategies
- Minimum five years related experience in a manufacturing environment with demonstrated new product introductions
- Effective change manager with proven ability to quickly establish credibility with different business units, influence project teams, and persuade professionals at all levels
- Have excellent project management skills with demonstrated sense of urgency
- Have excellent organizational skills and possess knowledge of production systems and techniques
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or Engineering Technology, or equivalent years of directly related experience
- Experience with 3D product and process modeling software
Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:
- Experience in advanced Assembly processes: Controls, Automation, Conveyance, and Product Testing
- Experience in Fabrication processes: Forging, Heat Treating, Metal Stamping, Machining, and Welding
- Familiar with all aspects product design cycles and bringing product to market: new products, product iterations, and CI
- Understanding or experience in Industrial Engineering
- Leadership experience in setting and managing annual deliverables
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite -- Including MS Project and Power BI
